Woodland Empire is a band of five long-time friends creating acoustic, electric, eclectic, original music. You’ll hear a few choice covers, but the band’s goal is to meld distinct songwriting, singing and instrumental voices into a unique sound that pays homage to the roots and rock music that inspired us, while looking forward to new sonic textures. Alli Lurie’s bourbon-sweet vocals are the centerpiece, but behind her Andy Lohr, Andrew Field & G Bundy juggle everything from mandolin to clarinet to looper pedals to screaming electric guitar, each taking his turn at the mic. Dax Smith holds it all together thumping, bowing and soloing on upright & electric bass.
Woodland Empire is a sound that can fit anywhere from intimate & acoustic to loud & raucous and they have played (and packed) venues such as The Skyline Tavern, Alberta St. Pub, Ruse Brewing and Tomorrow’s Verse Taproom. You can also hear Alli, G, Andrew, Andy & Dax in the BundyBand, The Walkaways, the 12th Avenue Hot Club and the Unicorn Jam Factory.
